Intifada
July–December 2017
The exhibition, Intifada, commemorates the 30th anniversary of the first Palestinian popular uprising. The images of the “Intifada of the Stones” played an important role in projecting to the world the reality of life under occupation for unarmed Palestinian freedom fighters.
The exhibition presents the work of American photographer, Keith Dannemiller, who recorded the events of the first Intifada in Palestine over a two-year period. Through his unique lens, Dannemiller captured many resonant images of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli occupation forces; the detention process; life in Israeli jails and hospitals; and the daily lives of Palestinians in villages, cities and refugee camps in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Nazareth.
Intifada also features two sculptural works by Palestinian artist Ahmad Canaan, and the Unified National Leadership of the Intifada’s “Communiqué No. 2.”
A screen at the entrance of the Exhibition Hall displays commentary about the Intifada by Arab and international writers, in Arabic and English.
