Guardians of Our Eternal Flame
July–December 2019

“The valiant Palestinian women, protectors of our sustenance and life, and guardians of our eternal flame…”

This sixth exhibition of the Yasser Arafat Museum is inspired by the vision of Palestinian women in the Declaration of Independence of the State of Palestine.  The Museum presents this exhibition in appreciation of the Palestinian woman and in support of the enhancement of her role in the Palestinian life and journey of the people for freedom, national independence, and the steadfastness of her struggle to attain her rights.
The exhibition is particularly special due to its introduction of the works of female artists who are profoundly mindful of their intrinsic roles, concerns, and ambitions.  The exhibition presents 13 women artists, 12 Palestinian and one from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights who lives between Ramallah and Majdal Shams.

The Museum extends its appreciation to these artists, confident that they will play a paramount role in shaping Palestinian art and culture in the coming phase.
We must acknowledge that the challenges facing Palestinian women are more complex than those of most women in other parts of the world simply because she is either still under occupation or is still suffering from the diaspora or still suffering from systematic discrimination, in addition to the challenges she faces in the context of Palestinian society.  This complexity reflects itself in this exhibition.
