The 4th of August 2022 marks the 93rd birthday anniversary of the late leader Yasser Arafat. On this occasion, the museum committee decided to launch its ninth exhibition to show the public some of his personal belongings and the gifts that he had received while assuming his duties at his office in Ramallah as the President of Palestine from 2000, and through the years of his siege until he was martyred.
Yasser Arafat museum curates a large collection of objects which the late leader had received as gifts from various heads of states, ministers, political figures as well as foreign solidarity groups. This collection contains as well gifts that he received from Palestinians inside Palestine, from the diaspora, in addition to some personal belongings which are displayed permanently at the museum.
In view of the prominent status that the late president enjoyed in the international and regional arenas, and the solid international and popular support as well as the solid support he received during the most intensive moments of siege, there are plans, to display other objects at a later stage in the future.
Given the challenges that the Palestinian Revolution had gone through, it is needless to say that the late leader had to move with his comrades between several Arab countries until he arrived at his office in Gaza. This suggests that many of these gifts and documents still exist in those countries.
Towards that end, the Foundation exerts a significant effort to bring back to Palestine the objects which are related to the late President’s legacy with the aim of keeping them in this museum in a scientific and professional manner.
The President’s Uniform, (1998-2004)
The President used this uniform for approximately 6 years. Areas of Wear and tear can be noticed on the pants, the Jacket, and its pockets.
The Volar of the uniform dates back to the last quarter of the past century. It is a piece of a Palestinian Kufiyah that the president used to wrap around his neck and under his shirt.
A group of pins, flags, and emblems which were given as gifts to the President by various prominent figures and organizations during the siege period can be seen on the collar and Pockets of the Uniform.
