She was born in Gaza on December 12, 1941.
A mother of five children and the widow of the martyr, Commander Khalil Al-Wazir "Abu Jihad", Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Palestinian Revolutionary Forces.
She holds a BA in history from Damascus University.
She joined Fatah in 1959.
Member of the Central Committee of the "Fatah" Movement (1989–2009) and member of the Palestinian National Council since 1973
She returned to Palestine in 1994 after an enforced absence that lasted 31 years.
She was elected to the first Palestinian Legislative Council in 1996 and the second one in 2006.
Minister of Social Affairs for ten years (1994–2004).
President and cofounder of the Foundation for the Care of Martyrs and Wounded Families since 1967.
Secretary of the General Union of Palestinian Women between 1980 and 1985.
