The event began with the Palestinian national anthem, after which Abed Doula, the host, welcomed the attendees, and invited them to observe a minute of silence and recite Al-Fatiha for the soul of the martyr President Yasser Arafat and his companion, the leader Khalil Al-Wazir, and all the martyrs of Palestine.

The Foundation then screened a film produced by it titled "The Prince of Martyrs.. The First of Bullets.. The First of Stones," which observes the biography and path of the leader Abu Jihad and his contribution to the Palestinian revolution from its inception to his martyrdom, as well as his significant contributions at all levels to national work.

Dr.Ahmed Sobh, Director General of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, said that this event comes within the “In National Memory” program, and in commemorating the birth anniversary of the leader Khalil al-Wazir, it has carried out the commemoration of the birth anniversaries of four comrades of the late President Yasser Arafat and shed light on them.

He explained that the board of directors of the Yasser Arafat Foundation will discuss reviving a group of other companions for the next year, adding that this event is the fruit of cooperation with Khalil Al-Wazir Foundation.

Sobh added that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Yasser Arafat Foundation's work in this program will be distributed to all schools in the homeland, as well as libraries and cultural clubs, because the transmission of the novel from one generation to the next is essential for the revival of national memory.

Sobh reviewed some of the human aspects of Abu Jihad's life, saying: "Abu Jihad is a man of resistance, a man of difficult tasks, and a man of all stages. He has a great role in establishing the "FATH" movement and launching the contemporary Palestinian revolution with his companion, the leader Yasser Arafat."

As for the Abu Jihad family's speech, which was delivered by Dr. Hanan Al-Wazir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of  Khalil Al-Wazir Foundation (daughter of Abu Jihad), in which she thanked the Yasser Arafat Foundation for organizing this event to commemorate the 87th anniversary of the birth of Khalil Al-Wazir, Prince of Martyrs.

She continued by saying that Abu Jihad, the leader, father, and teacher who worked quietly and meticulously, was very modest, occupied his life with revolution and revolutionaries, and propagated hope in his surroundings despite the difficult conditions. She went on to say that Abu Jihad was a leader who thought beyond the box and outside the conventional, whether in terms of style or qualitative procedures, and he believed in the necessity for the revolution to reach every home. She stated that her father believed in working, building, and supporting institutions from universities, associations, unions, municipalities, women's, youth, workers, and health committees to reach a strategy for strengthening resilience and building a solid base for organizational and public action. She explained that on this anniversary, we must draw a lesson from the leaders' path, and the path of Khalil al-Wazir, and follow in their footsteps as believers and defenders of our people, our land, and the future of our generations, with our heads, held high, proud of our identity and our free Palestinian voice.

For his part, Mahmoud al-Aloul, the deputy head of "FATH", and a member of its central committee said in his speech: “Abu Jihad is an exceptional man.

"You have to make a huge effort to get to know Khalil Al-Wazir and witness his acts and behaviors on the field," Al-Aloul remarked. He is the silent man with great words and acts, and his major focus is on the field."
He also mentioned some evidence during the period of the Palestinian revolution, in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Tunisia, and the occupied Palestinian land, that armed revolution is the means that lead to our Palestinian goals, and the balance of power controls the compass, so he worked to establish the fighters bases. Al-Aloul continued by stating that Khalil Al-Wazir has a deep insight that does not disappoint, and you can find it in a variety of areas, and his advantage was to work on settling any internal disputes by seeking resistance activities against the occupation.

Several members of the Central Committee of "FATH", the Revolutionary Council, leaders of the national action factions, and a large crowd of the public participated in the commemoration.
There was also a photo exhibition showing the most important moments in the life of Khalil al-Wazir (Abu Jihad).
