2024-07-31

The Yasser Arafat Museum's Al-Muntada Hall hosted the screening of the film "Survivors of the Ashes" on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. The film addresses the suffering of women in Gaza amid the ongoing genocide in the region.

The event began with the Palestinian national anthem, a moment of silence, and the recitation of Al-Fatiha in honor of the late President Yasser Arafat and all Arab and Palestinian martyrs.

Organized by the General Union of Palestinian Women in collaboration with the Yasser Arafat Foundation, this event aimed to shed light on the plight of Palestinian women amidst the brutal war waged by the Israeli occupation over the past ten months and to discuss collective efforts to support women in the absence of basic life necessities.

Dr. Ahmad Soboh, General Director of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, stated: "From Al-Muntada Hall of the Yasser Arafat Museum, near his tomb and the site of his final battle, we affirm that Palestinian women are our eternal guardians of fire, as declared in our Independence Declaration. They have worked with all their might and determination to overcome challenges and face dangers."

Dr. Soboh added that Palestinian women have made significant contributions throughout the history of the Palestinian cause, preserving Palestinian societal identity.

He recalled some women who have had a profound impact on the Palestinian cause, including those mentioned in the Yasser Arafat Museum, such as Zuleikha Al-Shihabi, Nabiha Nasser, Salwa Abu Khadra, Issam Abdel-Hadi, and Umm Jihad.

For her part, Intisar Al-Wazir, Chairwoman of the General Union of Palestinian Women, expressed gratitude to the Yasser Arafat Foundation for hosting and supporting this important event.

Al-Wazir noted that the film serves to document the historical context, address the global indifference to the genocide in Gaza, and acknowledge the support received for the Palestinian cause during the brutal war.

The film, produced by the General Union of Palestinian Women and directed by Nahed Abu Taima, is a ten-minute work aimed at preserving the Palestinian narrative.

At the end of the seminar, a discussion was opened on how to support the women of Gaza amidst the ongoing war and genocide perpetrated by the Israeli military.

The choice of the Yasser Arafat Museum for this seminar was deliberate and intended to honor the spirits of the martyrs.
