Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi visited Yasser Arafat Memorial on Saturday, 10 February 2018. With Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, he laid a wreath at Arafat’s mausoleum. Dr. Nasser Alkidwa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yasser Arafat Foundation, then escorted the Indian delegation through the Museum’s exhibits, which present the narrative of the Palestinian contemporary national movement through the life and journey of Yasser Arafat.
Following his tour, Prime Minister Modi commented in the Museum’s guest book: “I am honored to be here at the Yasser Arafat Museum dedicated to the life of Abu Ammar, a great friend of India. I recall his contribution to the cause of Palestine and his warmth and affection for India. This was reciprocal in equal measure for India and Indians. We remember him fondly to this day.”
This visit marks the first of an Indian prime minister to Palestine. PM Modi arrived at the presidential headquarters (Al-Muqata’a) in Ramallah via Jordanian helicopter. He will be meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss and sign a number of agreements between the two countries.
