Yasser Arafat Museum Hosts Lecture on China’s Soft Foreign Policy and the Palestinian Case Study

The Yasser Arafat Museum hosted a political lecture on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, titled "China’s Soft Foreign Policy Amid Global Changes: Palestine as a Case Study." The keynote address was delivered by the Chinese Ambassador to the State of Palestine, H.E. Sun Zhen. The event featured prominent contributions from Dr. Ahmad Soboh, Chairman of the Yasser Arafat Foundation; Dr. Ahmed Majdalani, Member of the PLO Executive Committee; Dr. Omar Awadallah, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs; and Dr. Ramzi Odeh, Secretary-General of the International Academic Campaign Against Occupation and Apartheid (IACA). 


The lecture was attended by several members of the PLO Executive Committee, the Fatah Central Committee, and the Revolutionary Council. Also in attendance were members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Palestine, civil society representatives, journalists, and political writers. In his welcoming remarks at the Al-Muntada Hall, steps away from the mausoleum and final stronghold of the late founding President Yasser Arafat.


Dr. Ahmad Soboh welcomed the Ambassador. He lauded China as a global superpower that has steadfastly backed the Palestinian people and their inalienable national rights from the very beginning. Soboh highlighted the historical depth of this relationship, recalling Chairman Arafat’s pioneering visit to China in 1965 and noting that Beijing hosted the PLO’s second international office after Algiers. Ambassador Sun Zhen delivered a comprehensive overview of Chinese foreign policy and its deep-rooted historical ties with Palestine. 


He reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause enjoys unwavering support from both the Chinese leadership and its people, emphasizing Beijing's commitment to a just, peaceful resolution based on the two-state solution. The Ambassador noted that the lecture's theme reflects the practical, philosophical dimensions of China's foreign policy, which is dedicated to defending justice, truth, and Palestine’s absolute right to full statehood.


 The event concluded with key interventions and commentaries from Dr. Ahmed Majdalani, Dr. Omar Awadallah, and Dr. Ramzi Odeh, who collectively emphasized the strategic importance of Palestinian-Chinese relations in realizing an independent Palestinian state.
