The Yasser Arafat Foundation held its 16th Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, August 4, 2025, marking the anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s birth. The meeting took place at the Yasser Arafat Museum in Ramallah, chaired by Dr. Mamdouh Al-Abadi, with the participation of most members either in person or via video conference for those residing abroad. Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh attended on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas.
Dr. Al-Abadi welcomed the members and reaffirmed the steadfast Palestinian position, supported by Arab and international allies, in the face of the ongoing genocide being carried out by the Israeli occupation, particularly in Gaza.
Vice President Al-Sheikh conveyed President Abbas’s greetings and reiterated the leadership’s strong support for the Yasser Arafat Foundation. He expressed deep appreciation for the solidarity shown by Arab nations and the international community in supporting the Palestinian people’s resilience and their rejection of displacement and settler colonialism. He emphasized that the immediate priorities are ending the aggression, rejecting forced displacement, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and implementing international resolutions that call for ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Board reviewed and approved the administrative report presented by Dr. Ahmad Sobeh, Chair of the Executive Board, as well as the external auditor’s report. The meeting also approved the Foundation’s upcoming programs and activities. Members shared political insights, stressing the urgent need to stop the genocide in Gaza, end the policy of starvation, and facilitate the entry of medical and food aid. The discussion highlighted the importance of achieving comprehensive national reconciliation under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and capitalizing on growing international recognition of the State of Palestine.
