The Yasser Arafat Foundation, represented by its Chairman of the Board, Dr. Ahmad Soboh, signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with the United Nations University for Peace. Dr. David Fernández Poyana, Ambassador and Representative of the University to the United Nations in Geneva, represented the University at the signing ceremony, which took place at the Yasser Arafat Museum.
Dr. Soboh stated: "This agreement is part of our ongoing efforts to promote the values of peace and democracy within international legitimacy. It aims to establish joint programs and cooperation between the Foundation and the University in areas of mutual interest that will serve the Palestinian people, particularly by benefiting from the University's academic programs in diplomacy and UN-related work."
Dr. Poyana welcomed the signing of the agreement, saying: "Today, we meet with the Yasser Arafat Foundation to work on promoting the culture of just peace and education for peace based on United Nations resolutions. The University will continue to collaborate with the Foundation on potential areas of mutual cooperation in this regard."
It is important to note that the University for Peace is an international governmental organization with university status, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1980. Its current President is Ambassador David Fernández Poyana, who also serves as the University’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations in Geneva and the University's Permanent Representative to UNESCO.
