The assassination of Mustafa Hafez

Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Hafiz Darwish, the head of Egyptian Military Intelligence on Israel and in the Gaza Strip, is authorized by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser to form a fedayeen (commando) brigade that becomes known as the “Mustafa Hafiz Fedayeen.” The brigade carries out a series of crossborder attacks causing significant losses for Israel.  On the 12th of July 1956, Israel assassinates Hafiz by an explosive device hidden in an envelope.
